Over twelve consecutive days, Walmart will award a total of $1.5 million to 145 organizations in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.

BENTONVILLE, Ark., Dec. 15, 2011 – On the fourth day of its “12 Days of Giving” Facebook campaign, Walmart is awarding $85,000 to 11 nonprofits that provide clothing to those in need. Over twelve consecutive days, Walmart will award a total of $1.5 million to 145 organizations in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.
Organizations being honored on the company’s Facebook page today are serving communities in: Arkansas, California, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Washington and Washington D.C.
“It’s essential for families to have access to warm socks, coats and other clothing items,” said Julie Gehrki, senior director at the Walmart Foundation. “The organizations we honor today provide warmth and are spreading joy to families in-need this holiday season.”
Walmart’s call for nominations for its “12 Days of Giving” Facebook campaign resulted in more than 5,400 nominations from Facebook users who shared photos and short descriptions of a nonprofit’s impact in its local community. A panel from the Walmart Foundation reviewed submissions and selected nonprofits with a focus on organizations that are providing basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing and baby supplies.
The fourth day of giving highlights organizations that gather and distribute free and discounted clothing such as coats, shoes, work attire, socks, gloves and other necessities to children, low income families and the homeless. The organizations being spotlighted today include:

Initiative builds on the Walmart Foundation’s $10 Million Commitment to Support Veterans Jobs
Washington, D.C., April 12, 2011 – Walmart today announced its Military Family Promise as part of First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden’s “Joining Forces” military support announcement in Washington D.C. The commitment guarantees a job at a nearby store or club for all military personnel, and military spouses, employed at Walmart and Sam’s Club who move to a different part of the country because they or their spouse have been transferred by the United States military.
In addition, through Walmart and Sam’s Club’s Military Family Promise, associates called to active military duty will continue to be paid any difference in their salary if the associate is earning less money during their military assignment.
