Health and Wellness
Year after year, health care costs continue to rise, leaving more and more Americans to make tough decisions about their health. Walmart is working with consumers to find health care solutions that improve access, quality and affordability. We know that Congress and the Administration are working on legislation to reform many of the problems with America’s health care system. That’s why we encourage CAN members to contact their legislators and ask them to support the following health care principles for America:
1. Every person in America must have quality, affordable health insurance.
2. Businesses, individuals and government must share the responsibility for financing and managing the American health care system.
3. The health care system must reduce the financial strains on individuals, businesses and government by eliminating waste and unnecessary procedures, and by adopting technology that will bring efficiency and value into the system.
4. Individuals have a responsibility to maintain and protect their health.
5. America’s health care system must be focused on HEALTH, not just the treatment of illness.
6. Walmart will play a role as a retailer, employer and influencer by driving transformational changes in America’s health care system.
Walmart is confident that we can find new pathways to affordable, accessible health care and we’re committed to working with our elected officials—and with advocates like you—to make this goal a reality.
Affordable Care
$4 Prescriptions
People around the world are struggling with the costs of health care. To help ease the strain, we are using the strengths of our business to dri
ve down the cost of health care and bring our customers the lowest prices on the products and services they need to stay healthy.
Americans have saved more than $1 billion since we launched the $4 Prescription Program just over two years ago. Now, we’ve expanded the $4 Prescription Program to continue to drive down health care costs through our pharmacy offerings, which include a new 90-day prescription for $10 available at Walmart stores, Neighborhood Markets and Sam’s Club; more than 1,000 over-the-counter medications for $4, or less, at Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets; and additional women’s health medications for osteoporosis, menopause, hormone deficiency, and breast cancer. Pioneering the $4 Prescription Program was only a start to the ways that we’re contributing to affordable health resources for American consumers. We’ve also announced that our affordable pharmacy program has been expanded to include a smoking cessation prescription starter pack for $9, the lowest price on the market, as well as an environmentally friendly albuterol rescue inhaler starting at $9, the lowest-priced inhaler on the market.
Associate Health
Over the years, Walmart associates have received improved health benefits, providing them with a stronger, more affordable benefit package with more options and helping them live healthier lives. Today, every associate—whether full-time or part-time—who works in the United States can become eligible for individual health coverage costing as little as $5 per month in some areas and no more than $8 per month nationwide. As soon as an associate becomes eligible for benefits, their children are eligible too. Our associates have more than 50 ways to customize their health coverage options. They can select from a menu of deductibles, health care coverage options, and health credits and premiums.
