On October 10, 2014, a ribbon cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the new Walmart store on Route 1. Store Manager, Mark Gullotti, welcomed Saugus area residents and community leaders and presented a donation to six local organizations from the store. Recipients included the Saugus Public Schools, the Saugus Fire Department, the Saugus Police Department, Saugus Veteran Services, Saugus Youth and Recreation and the Saugus Family YMCA.
The new Saugus Walmart store offers the neighborhood convenience of a full grocery store with a deli, bakery, fresh produce, pharmacy, dry and frozen goods as well as a full general merchandise section, all under one roof. This location also offers check cashing services at competitive rates at all times during the store’s hours of operation, including early morning and evenings, to better serve Saugus area residents.
Sustainability features of this new store include a daylight harvesting system consisting of multiple skylights, electronic dimming ballasts and computer controlled daylight sensors. Skylight usage integrated with dimmable T-8 fluorescent lighting on the sales floor takes full advantage of natural daylight when available, thus reducing energy demand by 15-20% as compared to traditional lighting systems.

Walmart is pleased to have become an official part of the community following a ribbon cutting ceremony at its newly expanded store located at 677 Timpany Blvd. in Gardner on January 29, 2014. The grand-opening celebration included presentations of $4,750 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include C.A.R.E, the Gardner Fire Department, Gardner Police Department, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Stetson School.
This expansion added approximately 47,000 square feet to the existing store and allows for a larger selection of merchandise for customers. New departments include fresh produce, bakery, deli, rotisseries, prepared meals and vision center. The expansion also created approximately 80 additional jobs.
“The expansion of the Gardner Walmart will increase the city’s commercial tax base, has provided for the realignment and upgrading of a difficult and dangerous intersection, and will offer additional jobs for those within the Greater Gardner region,” said Mayor Mark Hawke.
Raynham’s second Wal-Mart store opened in March of 2014 off Route 138, about five miles away from the original Wal-Mart located on Route 44. This new store makes Raynham the only town in the country to have two Wal-Mart stores.
The new store is open 24-hours, and contains a full grocery department as part of its Supercenter format. Benefits to the community include jobs and revenue generated in addition to the convenience of new shopping options for area customers.
The new Wareham Walmart Supercenter opened its doors in August 2015 at the corner of Route 28 and Tobey Road. The new store brings approximately 85 new jobs and increased tax revenue that funds vital city services. The new 150,000-square-foot Supercenter features a layout designed to make shopping more convenient with efficient service and a clean, friendly shopping experience. Offerings include a full-service grocery department featuring bakery goods, meat and dairy products, fresh produce, dry goods and staples, deli foods, frozen foods, canned and packaged goods, as well as general merchandise, and a pharmacy. The new store will also offer free store pickup service, providing an easy way to shop millions of products on www.walmart.com, with many items available for pick-up the same day.
The project broke ground in June 2014 with State Representative Susan Williams Gifford, Chairman Alan Slavin, town officials, and supporters in attendance for the ceremony.
An expanded Walmart unveiled the changes on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. The expanded store at 141 Springfield Road is conveniently located on Route 20 and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This store provides Westfield residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
Representatives of Walmart and local officials were present for the grand opening ceremony. The grand-opening celebration also included presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups.
The expansion adds approximately 54,000-square feet to the existing store and will allow for a larger selection of merchandise for customers, including a full line of groceries.
“Walmart has been a community partner providing local jobs since 1994 when the store originally opened. Their expansion, including adding over 80 jobs, will have a positive economic impact in the area and their long-time involvement has benefited the community,” said Kate Phelon, executive director of the Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce.
The store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 80 positions created by the expansion.
