New Walmart Brings Jobs, Hopes to Revitalize East Charlotte

Walmart is celebrating the grand opening of their new east Charlotte supercenter store on Independence Boulevard Wednesday. The new store employs 400 people and 250 of those are brand new jobs. Most of those people are ready to finally open the new store. “This is my first grand opening and I’m excited about it, because I never been to one before, so I wanted to see and experience what it would be like,” Elaine Stephenson said. This new location replaces the older Walmart on Eastway Drive, and many in the community are looking forward to seeing what this anchor store does for the area.
